We have this Filipino saying that goes, “namuti na ang mata ko sa kakahintay sayo!”. Translate: My eyes went white while waiting for you. It’s a hyperbole indicating I’ve waited for you for so long, my eyes just went white! 😀 It’s funny really, but in reality, isn’t that how we truly feel?

Waiting for God to “breakthrough” and answer our prayers can be frustrating. No matter how good and righteous the prayer may be, the waiting is equally excruciating. Today’s blog post will discuss all things about waiting on God. Keep reading!

What are you waiting for?

Before I share some insight on this beautiful topic, we have first to answer: “what are we waiting for anyway? Do you know what you’re contending with in prayer? What is the promise?”

Can I challenge you right now, start reflecting and write down these things.

Healing of a disease?

Reconciliation with a friend? Family?

Restoration of wealth?

Job?

Traveling?

Missions work?

Peace at home?

Success in your career?

Business growth?

To get married?

To have babies?

Factors that Affect the Wait

  1. The world teaches us to rush and strive to be successful in life.

This constant state of rushing is endless. From the moment we were born. The rush to stand up, walk, be a toddler, go to preschool, grade school, middle grade, high school, what college to go to? What courses to take? What path to choose? Have you applied for a job? Promotion? Start a family? Get married. Babies. Travel the world? More income. Early retirement.

Society has pretty much written our path. And we fall under its spell!

Are we ruled by society / the world or by God?

“ We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but God’s purpose prevails.” Proverbs 19:21 MSG

Can I challenge you today, girls, to reflect on your life? Is it dictated by what the world tells you where you should be or God?

  1. Is there a delay?

To even consider a “delay” means there was a designated schedule.

Whose schedule are we on? Is it our own schedule and plan? Or God’s?

It’s easy to say, “I trust God”, but to wait for His timing is ridiculously another thing.

What does Scripture teach us, girls?

”Don’t overlook the obvious here, friends. With God, one day is as good as a thousand years, a thousand years as a day. God isn’t late with his promise as some measure lateness. He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone lost. He’s giving everyone space and time to change.“ ‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭MSG‬‬

”There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:“

‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

  1. Whose plan is this anyway?

Do we even know why we have to wait? We complain because of our lack of wisdom and understanding. Right?

When I line up to pay for something, or when there’s so much traffic, I wanna know why it’s taking so long!

Why is the wait taking so long?

So, we do complain! Rather than seek understanding, or, you’ll hate me for saying this… patience.

The Truth is, God says in Isaiah 55: 8-11, “I don’t think the way you think. The way you work isn’t the way I work.” God’s Decree. “For as the sky soars high above earth, so the way I work surpasses the way you work, and the way I think is beyond the way you think. Just as rain and snow descend from the skies and don’t go back until they’ve watered the earth, Doing their work of making things grow and blossom, producing seed for farmers and food for the hungry, So will the words that come out of my mouth not come back empty-handed. They’ll do the work I sent them to do, they’ll complete the assignment I gave them.” MSG version

The Resolve (My Suggestion Anyway)

If you truly are His daughter (or son), you know God loves you, and He will not do anything to harm you, forsake you.

His promise for us is to never leave us nor forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5 ) His plans are good and give us hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). He promises us an abundant life (John 10:10b). That we will be with Him forever in Paradise (John 6: 47, Luke 23: 43)

We need to hold on to these promises. Such promises align us to His word, and His word never returns to Him void. It does what He intended for Him to do.

Can we trust Him?

Even when understanding does not come, will we choose to submit to Him, anyway?

That’s the essence of trust and faith.

I know, I know. It’s quite tiring to hear that sometimes. Many people have probably already told you. But get this into your heart girl, His promise was to be with us.

Three Things I’ve Learned in the waiting.

What I’ve found in my years and years of waiting on God (for different things), is that:

  1. it always doesn’t happen the way I think it will. His plans are so much better than mine! He exceeds all my expectations.
  1. God is pleased with our obedience.
  1. He delights in the wait with us. So I’ve learned to submit (it’s hard to let go of the comfortable, but once you do, you get used to obeying and submitting, it’s quite exhilarating!)

Sometimes, the wait gets to me. What I do is I inquire of the Holy Spirit if it’s a delay or His timing. If there’s a delay, spiritual warfare is happening and we need to contend in prayer and fasting. If it’s His timing, we gotta trust Him He is at work and to keep doing what He wants us to do.

I still have a long way to go, girls. But in my years of learning and experience of being in the waiting and having so much joy in the midst of it (waiting for my promised Kingdom marriage, thriving 8-figure business, funds released, our church to have an entity, the list goes on), I believe that’s something I can powerfully impart to you.

Let us start enjoying the abundant life God gave us and Jesus died for us, today! Stop worrying, stop fussing, stop disobeying Him.

I pray you will learn to submit to His will and love His word and companion and presence all day.

Prayer you can pray:

Dear Jesus,

Today, I choose to submit to Your will. I am sorry for the times I have disobeyed and blatantly refused you. I choose to trust You that Your plans and timing for my life is the best ever. Help me to keep surrendering to You Holy Spirit. I renounce rebellion. I submit to You Lord Jesus

In Your Name I pray, AMEN.
