Starting a business in general can go either ways: it’s easy or it’s hard. A lot of factors can affect the success of a start-up business. There’s the location, the funding, the demand of the people in the beginning, and the response of the people if they either buy it or not. What’s business gonna be like in 2024? If you’ve had success in 2023, does it mean the same for 2024? In today’s topic, I will discuss the reality of starting a business in these turbulent times, and how we, as Christian women entrepreneurs, can respond to it.

First of all, every year poses new challenges and a lot of changes in the world, and that includes our online business industry.

In 2023 alone, so many new technologies and tools were launched. Things and processes invented to make our lives easier. However, the reality of our current economy now is that each new feature that comes out seems to just overwhelm us rather than help us, right? Especially for the new entrepreneur like yourself!

Let’s take for example, you just launched a new website design studio. Since you’re an expert at doing this, it’s not new to you to be updated on what’s new with Adobe products or similar easier tools such as Canva. But there’s the whole other side of running a business that is not as easy or is completely new to us! 

Here’s a short list:

1. Registering the business to our country
2. Hiring an accountant or you can do bookkeeping by yourself. 
3. Creating a marketing system
4. Getting new clients/sales process
5. Interacting and serving our own clients
6. Writing emails
7. Issuing receipts
8. Tracking growth
9. Evaluating
10. Planning (endless planning and strategy sessions!)

And in every item, there’s new tools and strategies to help us streamline and improve our business. Many experts we see on ads online “encourage” and honestly, shove it to our faces daily, that a new entrepreneur such as yourself will be pressured to cave because it’s new! And “we need it”! 

I just remembered, I haven’t even included the mental and emotional health aspect of this. We need to take care of ourselves and our loved ones, especially our relationship with Jesus. Are we aligned with Him in all of these? AHHHH!!!

In addition, the world is not exactly thriving at the moment. The wars, rumors of wars, all these conspiracy theories that somehow have truth to it led us to question: Should I even start a business that impacts the world? 

Shouldn’t I just focus on earning as much as I can, buy lots of seeds and plant a self-sustaining garden so when hell breaks out in the earth, my family and I will survive the apocalyptic? 

I hope I’m kidding about the last paragraph but I’m also lowkey not.

There are many things to consider!

HONESTLY! These are all enough to make you go crazy and I don’t blame you why you’d want to quit before you started!

EXCEPT!

The Holy Spirit has promised and compelled you, you cannot deny it no longer, that you are called to start that business NOW! This year! He has promised that He will use you to impact the world and create solutions for the world, not the opposite (where you’re the loser and be affected by the world).

So keep going, right?

As promised at the beginning of this post, I’d like to propose to you, as a sister in Christ, how we can appropriately respond to all these NEW! things that scream at our faces and the realities of war and the current economy.

1. Remember who you are. 

You are a child of God. The daughter of the King of kings. You have been appointed and anointed for the work He has set before you. (Ephesians 2:10) Your purpose has been written by Him before you were born (Jeremiah 1:5) and they are good and perfect (Jeremiah 29:11). 

Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Heavenly Father  in the Heavenly realms, so powerful and holds authority over everything (1 Peter 3:22). In Luke 10:19, Jesus gave us the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions. 

2. Remember your purpose.

Further when you study Genesis, you will learn the purpose God gave to humanity. To steward His creation. He is the Ultimate Creator and He has given us the task to keep creating and stewarding what He gave us. 

Jesus gave us the mandate to advance His Kingdom on earth. In Matthew 28: 13, Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of th eFather and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” 

I truly believe that in every sphere of life, we must represent Jesus and His Kingdom and be the light in that area. 

3. He is with you.

God’s promise is not that it’s going to be easy, He never said that. In fact Jesus said the world hates us because we are not of the world (John 15: 18). He also prophesied in Matthew 24 that we will be persecuted. (Read Matthew 24 for more on what Jesus said).

All that is applicable to you starting a business! It’s not gonna be easy girl. I just enumerated some of the tasks starting a business entails. That does not even include the enemy’s opposition against God’s plans and purposes over us- Creation and all His children, which we need to learn how to fight in spiritual warfare. 

In all of that, God is with you. His promise is He will never leave us nor forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5) “My Presence will go with you and I will give you peace.” (Exodus 33:14)

In a true Holy Spirit fashion, I started writing today’s post with a different ending in mind, but I knew God had a word for us today— it’s to KEEP GOING.

Yes, there are rumors of wars, turbulent economic weather, unprecedented instabilities in 2024 that starting a business seems like the last thing on the list but God has a plan, girls! And YOU are a part of it!

I believe you are going to be a gamechanger in your industry. You are called for more than what you are doing now. There is more He wants to show you of Him, deeper levels of intimacy with the Lord and abundant growth. His plan is not just for you to start a business for your own benefit, but to impact the world! To fund the billion people soul harvest and all the things (we don’t know what they exactly are!) He has planned.
